Warm, gooey, cheesy, garlic breadsticks! Amazing!! Such a simple recipe with great results!! Delicious on their own or dipped in marinara. This was my first time making breadsticks and will definitely not be the last!
Just look at that cheese! I love when it gets all brown and a little bit crispy!
recipe slightly adapted from: highheelsandgrills.com
3/4 c. hot water
3/4 tsp. dry active yeast
1 1/2 tsp. olive oil
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. sugar
3/4 c. whole wheat pastry flour (if you don’t have this, you can just do 1 1/2 c. all-purpose)
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tbls. butter, melted
2 cloves garlic, minced (I made these the same day I made the roasted garlic hummus so I used the leftover roasted garlic, yum!)
1 to 1 1/2 c. shredded mozzarella cheese
1 tsp. dried basil
Sprinkle yeast over warm water and let sit for 5 minutes. Add olive oil, salt, and sugar to yeast and stir to combine. In the bowl of a standing mixer with dough hook add yeast mixture, then add flour. Knead with dough hook until dough pulls away from sides of bowl and forms a ball. Cover dough and let sit for at least an hour until doubled in size.
Preheat oven to 450F. Roll dough out to desired thickness. Combine butter and garlic and brush on dough with a pastry brush. Cover with cheese and basil and cook for 10-12 minutes. Cut into slices and enjoy!
